Before making any decisions, find out what additional support could be available. Consider what support you could get from your employer to help you stay in work or explore our tips for finding a flexible new job that suits you. Staying in work (if you can) will also help you contribute to your pension and save for retirement.

If you think you may need to take a break from work, try to plan for any potential impacts on things like finances or pensions before you decide. Leaving work also doesn’t have to be a permanent decision. Consider how you could stay in touch with your employer to help you return to work in the future.
