Speaker 1: Are you looking for work and thinking about trying something new? Working in adult social care, you will make a real difference to people's lives every day. Here's how Maisie made her move to being a care worker. Maisie: Before I became a carer I was working in the retail sector as part of a customer service team. They always enjoyed helping people, even over the phone. I always wanted that a little bit more. I wanted it more on a personal level. New Speaker: I saw a lot of caring jobs advertised online. So I applied and I got a good few interviews. It took about a week to get the training sorted and some shadowing shifts. From my previous role, customer service is one of the transferable skills as well as problem solving and finding a clear way to communicate. New Speaker: My job on a day to day, it can vary so much, so it could be a cup of tea and a chat to make sure they're okay. Or support to undress. Making food. Just your everyday tasks that they just need the extra help with. New Speaker: My preconceptions of carers, a hundred percent changed. I thought there was going to be a lot more bodily fluids involved and a lot more funny smells. And you just realize that that is such a minor irrelevant part of the job. It's all about making the difference and the relationships are amazing. And these people that you're working with are really amazing. New Speaker: What I would say to your job seekers considering being a carer is absolutely do it. It's nothing better going to sleep, knowing that you've made a difference to somebody by just helping them. It's such a fulfilling job. Definitely go for it, a hundred percent.
